Know Your Stone - Amber

This gorgeous picture of my bebe's tootsie is by my very talented husband.  As soon as I saw this one, I knew I had to grab it for the Know Your Stone series.  This 'stone', which is actually fossilised tree resin, is another of my faves, primarily for it's stunning range of colours and the natural variants that occur in it's composition.

Amber

Ranging in colour from darker browns to almost translucent yellows, amber begins as a sticky resin oozed from pine trees, trapping organic matter such as small insects/plant material/feathers as it runs. It becomes the fossilised 'stone' after thousands of years being encased in sediment and subjected to high pressure and temperatures.

Wearing or carrying amber is said to promote a soothing, light energy which is both calming and energising.  It can uplift a negative disposition and encourages a clearer mental outlook.   Real amber is warm to the touch, which indicates the ability to produce negative ions, which in turn eases pain and activates the healing process.  Wearing it close to the skin allows the natural analgesic/anti-inflammatory properties to sooth, making it a popular choice for teething babies and those suffering from arthritis.

*my Frankie has quite a chubby little neck....that's why I wrap it around his ankle ☺

OOOOOPS!  And I almost forgot, the winner of our Jan giveaway (I know, I am soooo late), is Evie!
Congrats, Evie.....check your inbox xoxo

  4. What a cute pic! I didn't know Amber was warm to the touch or half of that stuff. How interesting. I always thought it was so neat when it was on display in museums with old mosquitos and what not inside. Thank you for sharing!
